This article covers

While creating a Refundable Credit note, the credit amount is pulled out from all the line items. I need to create a credit note only for the plan. How is it possible?

Summary

You can choose the line items from which you need to create the Credit Note, particularly for an invoice. This can be done by clicking on the “Advanced > edit line items” option at the bottom of the pop-up window while creating a Credit note. With the help of "The line items' billing period on the invoice" settings, the service period for the line items in the credit notes will be the same as their respective billing periods on the invoice.

Navigate to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Billing LogIQ > Billing & Invoices > Set default service period for credit note line items. Please refer to this link for more information.

If you are a business selling in Nordic countries, use the void invoice with credit note workflow. A credit note is created and applied to the voided invoice automatically. Refer to this link to avail the Void invoice with credit note setting on your Chargebee site.

Solution

In Chargebee you can create two types of Credit notes,

a. Adjust the due amount: This works only for 'partially paid' or 'payment due' invoices

b. Provide refundable credits: this works for 'partially paid' or 'paid' invoices.

Suppose there is an invoice in your Chargebee site with multiple line items, like a plan along with some addons and charges, and you need to create a Credit Note only for some specific line items (i.e. only for the plan or for any specific addon or Charge). This can be done by selecting Advanced > edit line items”.

You need to navigate to the particular invoice and open it. Create a Credit Note > Advanced > edit line Items.

Now you need to delete the line items for which you do not want to create a Credit note, by clicking on the 3 dots option menu at the right-hand side of each line item and clicking on Delete.

You can also create a credit note at the unit level (can edit the units in order to create a credit note for a specific quantity of the line items) of the line item if the line item price model type is quantity based (i.e. Unit based, Tier, Volume and Stairstep).
