How do I set a Free Billing Period(manual free trial) for an existing Active subscription?

Scope

On Chargebee, set trials can be created at a plan level but what if you want to give manual free trials on Active subscriptions?

Summary

On Chargebee, set trials can be created at a plan level but if you want to give manual free trials on an Active subscription it can be achieved through the Free Period feature.

Solution

This can be done using the Free Period feature. Adding a free period to a subscription increases the current subscription term by as many days/weeks/months/years while retaining the original charge as per the plan or addon.

In order to add a free period to a subscription, you would need to have this feature enabled. You can write to support@chargebee.com to have this feature enabled.

Once this is enabled for your site, navigate to the Create/Edit Subscription Page and locate the Free Period section under the Billing Info section.

After having added the free period, the renewal date is pushed by the number of days added here giving the specified free period for this subscription.

Limitations :

It is currently not possible to use this feature if the Chargebee site has Calendar billing enabled or has Gift subscriptions enabled.
