What is the GST rule in Australia?

How should the tax be displayed in Australian invoices?


Summary

GST is set at a flat rate of 10% and is required to be included in the invoice of your product or service. As per the Australian tax invoice rules, a tax invoice with sales in excess of A$1000 must capture the GST for each line item individually.

A GST invoice sent to a customer must contain the following information

  • The document should be titled Tax Invoice.

  • The seller's identity

  • The seller's Australian business number (ABN)

  • The date the invoice was issued

  • A brief description of the items sold, including the quantity (if applicable), the price, the GST amount (if any).
