Solution

A credit note can be issued for one of the following reasons
- Refund an amount to the customer
- Write off an invoice
- Change of subscription to a lesser value (proration)

You can create a credit note for the above reasons i.e. A credit note for the amount paid or you can create a Promotional Credit.

If you are a business selling in the Nordic countries, use the void invoice with credit note workflow. A credit note is automatically created and applied to the voided invoice. Refer to this link to access the Void Invoice with Credit Note setting on your Chargebee site

With the help of "The line items' billing period on the invoice" settings, the service period for the line items in the credit notes will be the same as their respective billing periods on the invoice.
Navigate to Settings > Configure Chargebee > Billing LogIQ > Billing & Invoices > Set default service period for credit note line items. Please refer to this link for more information.

To create a credit note for the amount paid

Step 1: Go to invoices in Chargebee -> select your invoice -> Click on the '...' option and select the 'Create a credit note' option
Step 2: There are two options
a. Adjust the due amount - This works only for 'partially paid' or 'payment due' invoices
b. Provide refundable credits - this works for 'partially paid' or 'paid' invoices.

Choose the option as per your requirement.
Step 3: Mention the reason for credit note creation under 'Reason codes' and click on 'Proceed to update'. You have created the credit note successfully.

How to add Notes on Credit Note

To add the 'Credit note' site level notes which will be visible for all credit notes, navigate from Settings -> Configure Chargebee -> Invoice, Credit notes  and Quotes -> Credit notes > Notes > Add

To add notes for a specific credit note, then navigate from Invoices & Credit Notes > Invoices > Create a Credit note and then you will see an option to add the notes, screenshot for reference.
