How do I set up custom billing frequency in Chargebee, such as a quarterly billing plan?

Solution

If you are in Product Catalog 2.0, it is important that you define billing frequency at a site level, based on your business needs. To configure billing frequency, follow these steps:

  1. Click Settings > Configure Chargebee > Billing > Product Catalog.

  2. In the Product Catalog Settings page, click Manage under Setup Billing Frequency.

  3. All billing frequencies are selected by default. Select your preferred billing frequencies, which will allow you to create Plans and Addons accordingly. Options include Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly. Additionally, you can define custom frequencies, such as Quarterly or Bi-Annually.

  4. Click Apply.

Changes on Apply Button while Configuring Product Catalog

  • If no changes are made in the settings the Proceed button will close the Set Billing Frequency popup and take you back to the Configure Chargebee > Product Catalog page.

  • If you make any changes then Proceed button will allow you to implement the changes using an Apply button.

You can create plans and addons only for the billing frequencies that are defined under the Essential Settings.

Plans cannot be created as lifetime plans. The maximum billing frequency that a plan can be created is for 15 years and is currently a hard limit.

However, you can create a lifetime subscription.

First, you need to set the Billing Frequency as Forever which makes subscriptions renew throughout the lifetime.

Say you create a subscription now in 2023. Now, you will also need to extend the billing date once you close to the end of the 15-year period. Otherwise, the subscription will be invoiced again when the period ends in T+15 years, i.e., in 2038.
